Minneapolis based artist David Rathman had his first residency at Tamarind during the summer of 2016. His work ruminates on epic American themes such as cowboys and western landscape, car crashes, sports, and everyday dramas. Curious hand-written phrases and bits of song lyrics float across the surface, some literary, some comical. His skilled pairing of untethered language and imagery fixes these poignant fragments in our imagination.
Rathman is represented in the collections of the Walker Art Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and many others.
