Brandon Gunn, Tamarind Master Printer

Professor of Practice/Education Director

Brandon J. Gunn joined the Tamarind staff in January 2016 as Director of Education. Gunn is originally from Orem, Utah. After receiving a Masters degree in Printmaking at Illinois State University in 2006, and the Tamarind Master Printer Certificate in 2008, he began teaching full time, in addition to producing his own artwork, printing collaboratively, and constructing leather rollers. Gunn has considerable experience as a collaborative printer and educator, and is extremely knowledgeable in traditional and modern lithography, intaglio, woodcut, and digital printing techniques.

He has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at Santa Fe Community College, Concordia University in Montreal, Brigham Young University Idaho, and Indiana University in Bloomington. He has also printed at Normal Editions Workshop, Stinger Editions, and for Indiana University’s visiting artist program. Gunn is responsible for the internationally recognized Professional Printer Training Program and the intensive Summer Workshop. He also regularly conducts external workshops and presentations, researches new materials and techniques, and consults with educational institutions, workshops and suppliers in the field.

Janessa Lewis headshotJanessa Lewis

Janessa Lewis is an artist and printmaker from Springville, Utah. She earned a BFA in Studio Arts from Brigham Young University in 2022. Her artistic process interweaves ecological research and time spent observing wild spaces. As a result, she makes drawn, painted, and printed studies that examine the complexities of land use and society’s relationship with natural resources. Through these studies, she developed a fascination with lithography because of its wide variety of mark making and processes. Lewis attended the Tamarind Summer Workshop for Stone Lithography in July 2023. After completing the Tamarind PTP, Lewis will continue her studies as an MFA candidate in Printmaking at The University of New Mexico. She intends to use the knowledge and experience gained through the PTP and her MFA to open a print workshop that will be a place of education and collaboration between artists and printmakers.

Will Alba headshotWill Alba

Will Alba is a Colombian-Canadian printmaker. After earning his BFA with distinction from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Will moved to New York City and became a member of the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. He joined Tamarind’s Printer Training Program to pursue his goals of opening a community printshop and working as an educator. He hopes to make print more accessible to marginalized communities.

Bekah Farnham is an artist and printmaker from Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her B.F.A from the Savannah College of Art and Design where she minored in printmaking. It was during her time at SCAD that she discovered her love for collaborative printing. Bekah has found the print shop to be a place of wonder that has held important moments of self-discovery, hard work, and friendship. She is thrilled to be part of Tamarind’s Printer Training Program year and can’t wait to further refine her skills in lithography so she can one day work with artists in her own studio.

Marie Barnache headshotMarie Barnache

Marie Barnache is a French printmaker with a deep passion for lithography. She discovered her love for the medium while studying engraving and printed image at the Estienne Art School in Paris. She has worked in various printmaking workshops across France, gaining experience in both printmaking techniques and preservation of historical Marinoni-Voirin presses. Now a student at Tamarind Institute, she is focused on extending her technical expertise. Marie wants to establish a collaborative lithography workshop in Lyon to make this art form more accessible to artists, both local and abroad, while fostering international connections within the lithography community.

Anna Hrbacova headshotAnna Hrbacova

Anna Hrbacova, an artist and a printmaker, born in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Since she began studying printmaking, she has had an ongoing passion for the medium. Anna has traveled and studied across universities in multiple countries including the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, and the U.S. Since earning her MFA at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria, she has been using her skills and education to create her own work as well as teaching printmaking in her hometown. She views the Printer Training Program as a valuable opportunity to further her growth, helping her reach her full potential as a printmaker.

Jennifer Tarry-Smith headshotJennifer Tarry-Smith

Jennifer Tarry-Smith is an artist and printmaker living and working in Melbourne, Australia. Jennifer fell in love with printmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, where she received her BA in Drawing and Printmaking. Her experience at the university was inspirational and she was determined to create a career out of her passion for the medium. She has worked as a print instructor and technician at some of Melbourne’s leading universities, conducted print workshops at local artist-run studios, worked as a print assistant, a picture framer, a collaborative printer working with Indigenous Australian artists and as an artist specializing in print herself. She has completed residencies in Japan and Venice, participated in numerous print exchanges, and exhibited in over 25 national and international shows. Jennifer hopes to share her love and knowledge of the medium when she returns home, and to fulfill her dream of opening her own collaborative print workshop.

Andrew Thompson headshotAndrew Thompson

Andrew Thompson is a printmaker from Norman, Oklahoma. He received his BA in Studio Art from Grinnell College where he focused his study on relief printmaking and was the recipient of an outstanding 4th-year portfolio award. He was introduced to lithography while an intern at Blackrock Editions in Santa Fe, NM, where he worked under master printer Steve Campbell and Joshua Orsburn. Andrew spent the year before applying to Tamarind living in Albuquerque and continuing to apprentice with Orsburn while working as a press assembly tech at Takach Press Corp. Following his time in the Tamarind Program, Andrew intends to pursue a career as a collaborative printer and work towards the goal of starting a workshop of his own.
