Laurent de Brunhoff is a French-American author and illustrator, best known for continuing the beloved “Babar the Elephant” children’s book series, originally created by his father, Jean de Brunhoff. Born on August 30, 1925, in Paris, Laurent was exposed to the world of art and storytelling from an early age. After his father’s untimely death in 1937, Laurent, then only 12 years old, eventually took up the mantle of continuing the Babar series, starting with “Babar et ce coquin d’Arthur” in 1946.
Laurent de Brunhoff’s continuation of the Babar series maintained the charm and whimsy of the original stories, while also introducing new adventures and characters, ensuring that Babar remained a beloved figure in children’s literature across generations. More than eight million books by father and son have been sold across the world.
