Polly Apfelbaum

b. 1955, Abington, Pennsylvania; lives in New York, New York

Apfelbaum’s work is inspired by her interests in popular culture, feminism, and the legacy of postwar abstract painting. Known for her “fallen paintings,” Polly’s exuberance is readily apparent in her colorful Tamarind lithographs. Her visit happened to coincide with the New Mexico State Fair–and the stuffed pink unicorn she won on the midway continues to serve as the workshop’s mascot. Her work is included in major collections around the world.
