PrintMatters invites you to join us June 2022 in celebrating our eighth PrintHouston with the Tamarind Institute as our featured guest!
Tamarind Institute is a non-profit center for collaborative printmaking, dedicated to research, education, and creative projects in fine art lithography.
Since 1960, Tamarind has shaped the field of collaborative printmaking through a unique printer training program and an educational mission to preserve and advance the creative medium of fine art lithography. They are a division of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. This unique program is widely credited with revitalizing the creative medium of lithography, and continues to provide the only printer training program of its kind in the world.
We kick-off the celebration with keynote speaker Diana Gaston, director of Tamarind Institute, June 3rd at Glassell School of Art Favrot Auditorium. On June 4th Dr. Dena M. Woodall, curator, prints and drawings at MFAH, and Diana Gaston will discuss the exhibit Celebrating Tamarind Institute at 62 featuring prints by Gertrud Goldschmidt (a.k.a. Gego), Ruth Asawa, Ellen Lesperance, and June Wayne in the MFAH, Kinder Building dedicated Prints and Drawings Gallery.
