Robert De Niro, Sr.

(1922 – 1993)


 

De Niro Sr. studied at the renowned Black Mountain College in North Carolina during the 1940s, where he was influenced by important artists and teachers such as Josef Albers and Willem de Kooning. He developed a unique style that incorporated elements of abstraction, cubism, and figurative painting.

His early works showed the influence of cubism, but he later transitioned towards more representational and figurative art. His paintings often featured still life, landscapes, and portraits with a distinct use of color and form.

In the 1970s, Robert de Niro Sr. collaborated with us at Tamarind Institute. His prints, like his paintings, showcased his skillful use of color and form, creating visually striking compositions. The collaboration with Tamarind Institute allowed him to explore printmaking techniques and further expand his artistic practice.
Robert de Niro Sr.’s legacy continues through his artworks, which are held in various collections and museums worldwide.
