Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez

Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez is a Colombian-American artist known for her multimedia work that explores themes of identity, migration, and cultural hybridity. Her art often delves into the intersection of gender, memory, and cultural inheritance, particularly focusing on Latin American and feminist narratives. Friedemann-Sánchez frequently uses a variety of materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, and installation art, to create intricate, symbolic works. Her pieces often incorporate motifs from colonial and baroque art as well as personal and cultural memories, weaving together stories of displacement and resilience.

Friedemann has been awarded a Smithsonian Artist Fellowship; a Puffin Foundation grant, a Pollock Krasner grant, a National Association of Latino Arts and Culture grant. She has also been nominated for the Rema Hort Mann, and the Anonymous was a Woman Foundation grant. Her work is in the collections of Jose Mugrabi, El Museo del Barrio, The Cleveland Museum, The Museum University of New Mexico, El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá, El Museo de Arte Moderno, Cali, Colombia, and El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Bogotá, Colombia.
